Brevoxyl Cream

Stiefel Laboratories Ltd

Active ingredients

Benzoyl peroxide 4% w/w in a hydrophase base.

Therapeutic Area Information

Skin Care & Antiseptics |

Symptoms

Brevoxyl Cream is used for the treatment of mild-to-moderate acne. Benzoyl peroxide, the active ingredient in Brevoxyl, is an oxidising agent with antibacterial activity against Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes), the main bacteria involved in acne. The unique hydrophase base of Brevoxyl ensures that, rather than leaving crystals on the skin to cause 'hot spots' or irritation, the benzoyl peroxide is kept in solution as it is absorbed. This minimises irritation and maximises the cream's potential to destroy P. acnes.

Adults

Adults: apply to the whole of the affected area once or twice daily. Wash with soap and water prior to application. Improvement can generally be seen after 4-6 weeks of treatment. However, longer use may be necessary.

Warnings

Patients with known hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients should not use the product. Avoid contact with the eyes, mouth and other mucous membranes. Care should be taken when applying the product to the neck and other sensitive areas. The product may bleach hair and coloured or dyed fabrics.
